What is the Schoolhouse building?
The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa was built on the site of Rissei Elementary School, the oldest concrete building in Kyoto, and a modern structure that was loved by the local people.
The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa consists of two buildings: the main building, which is a new construction, and the Schoolhouse building, which is a restored building that utilizes the original framework of Rissei Elementary School.
This time, we would like to introduce some of the recommended guest rooms in the distinctive Schoolhouse wing!
Overlook the Takasegawa River and cherry blossoms, which continue to be loved by local residents
The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa is located right next to the Takasegawa River, which is actually a populated canal that contributed greatly to the development of present-day Kiyamachi and Ponto-cho.
The Takasegawa was built to secure a stable waterway by drawing water from the Kamo River, which was known as the “Raging River” and frequently caused rebellions.
The Grace Corner Wide Twin (#255,#355) rooms overlook the Takasegawa River, and during the cherry blossom season, you can see the cherry blossoms in full bloom right in front of you.
On the north side of the hotel, there is a rare cherry tree called “Goyo” which has been carefully nurtured since the days of Rissei Elementary School!
Feel like an elementary school student again! Rooms with a view of the schoolyard are also available!
The Schoolhouse building is located on a relatively low floor (2-3F), so you cannot enjoy the panoramic view of Higashiyama. However, there are rooms with a schoolyard view that will remind you of your elementary school days.
These are the Grace Hollywood Twin rooms (#261, #262, #361, #362)!
Rissei Plaza was built where the schoolyard used to be.
On a warm sunny day, you can see many people lying down, chatting, and spending their time as they please. Spending time in the Schoolhouse is a great way to take a break from the busyness of daily life and refresh yourself.
